OUR FOUNDER

Frank Webb, founder of Frank Webb Architects (teamFWA), was born and raised in Long Beach, California. Frank was deeply involved in community and concerned about providing a spirit and sense of place in his work. He attended Long Beach Poly, the University of Oregon where he received his Bachelor of Architecture degree with Honors, and later attended Cal State Long Beach completing the Graduate Program in Fine Arts. He founded teamFWA in 1990 after spending eleven years at Dworsky Associates. He also worked in the office of Frank Homolka Architects in Long Beach earlier in his career. Frank passed away peacefully and with dignity in his home on June 17th at the age of 62, after a hard fought and brave battle with pancreatic cancer.

An award winning architect, gentleman and scholar, Frank sought to make the world a better place through his love of architecture and his relationships with people. He was passionate and optimistic every day and in every pursuit. Any assignment, big or small was an opportunity to provide a “thing of beauty, and joy forever.” He was skilled in all aspects of his craft and brought incredible knowledge, teamwork, and experience to the entire building process. He was equally comfortable in the field with a hard hat and tool belt, or effortlessly solving sudoku each morning while reading the Los Angeles Times. He was a problem solver with a zest for life who treated everyone equally. Frank’s people skills were his unique gift where he connected with warmth and integrity.

Frank was an avid tennis player, longtime member, and recently served as president of the Los Angeles Tennis Club. He was also appointed to the Park Mile Design Review Board for the City of Los Angeles and the Windsor Square Association. He was a member of NCARB, past officer and Board member of the Cabrillo Chapter, AIA, sponsor of the Architects and Designers for Social Responsibility, member of the Los Angeles Conservancy, and member of the Board of Visitors for the University of Oregon School of Architecture and Allied Arts. Frank was a consummate sports fan and tirelessly supported his beloved University of Oregon Ducks.

As an innovative contemporary architect recognized by both clients and peers, Frank had a diverse portfolio incorporating new construction projects, significant renovation and numerous tenant improvement projects. Frank had the ability to build team consensus through his exuberance, passion and spirit, while exceeding his client’s expectations. He strove to produce buildings of timeless design bringing communities brightness and hope. Frank instilled his philosophy of architecture and of life in the team members of Frank Webb Architects and we are all committed and honored to carry on his legacy.

OFFICE CULTURE The Monterey Design Conference provided a perfect setting for our Firm Retreat. The Speakers and Seminars were extremely inspiring…
